The Good News: My house and trees are safe following storms of biblical proportions that have plagued our area over the weekend. I have electricity. Electricity is good. Sometimes I think I would like to have one of those "immersion" experiences where you visit a place that is stuck in a historical time period, say, colonial. Losing power for a day is enough to mostly cure me of this. It is possible there would be enough ambiance to make up for the inability to use a stove or turn on a lamp. Honestly I doubt it though. I'm hopelessly prissy in this way. If only "roughing it" could be as romantic as it is in Little House on the Prairie. . . .
The Bad News: My storage area decluttering project is not yet complete, despite my goal of having it finished by Saturday, my birthday. It was supposed to be a present to myself! Oh well. It's almost done anyway.
I've needed a good laugh and found it in book form recently. I unearthed a copy of Art Linkletter's Kids Say the Darndest Things during the archaeological excavation going on in my basement. Back in the fifties (in my parents' time!) there was a show of the same name with a simple premise: Art Linkletter interviewed children. Some of the humor seems dated now, in a culture where almost no subject is taboo. Some are timeless, like the following:
Art to a four year old: If you could be anything at all, what would you be?
Four year old: I'd like to be a fish 'cause I like to wag my tail when I take a bath.
Here's another one:
Art: Do you have any brothers or sisters?
Kid: No, I'm single.
Good cheering up stuff here. :o)
Happy Birthday April!
