Happy Returns

July has been a sorry month for blog posts, partly because I've been on vacation. I'm home now and had a great time.

We took a decidedly historical trip. Over nine days we visited Philadelphia, Colonial Williamsburg, Gettysburg, and drove through Shenendoah National Park on our way toward home. We also spent a day in DC since we were so close, mainly looking at the monuments. Obviously, we enjoy sightseeing, but now we need a vacation from our vacation. A nice beach excursion like Debbie describes on her blog.

Our kids are eleven and thirteen, and until now both "didn't like" history, or so they thought. I think they've been hooked, now that they have stood on the archaeological remains of the Jamestown colony, and stood in the room where the Declaration of Independence was signed. They've listened to "George Washington" and watched reenactments of the stories that were only in textbooks before. If you've never been, Colonial Williamsburg is a great place to see "Living History." We had great fun there.

There is something about a roadtrip that brings my son and daughter so much closer to each other. They are literally sharing the backseat, which might be part of the reason. But there was so much more kindness than usual, which made me smile a lot. Quality time and togetherness happened for all, which is a good thing. :o)

So, I walked into my house with all these warm and fuzzy feelings in my heart and discovered that we'd left our air conditioning (which we try not to use often anyway) ON! Sheesh. It could have been much worse, but I'm sorry for the wasted energy and just hoping that it didn't come on all that often.

My writer friends, Ann and Debbie are doing a much better job keeping up their blogs than I. And wonderful content besides. You should really check them both out. :o)

You've convinced me. I want to see Colonial Williamsburg -- I've never been there and didn't realize it was so worthwhile. Save your itinerary for me, ok? :)
Falling Waters -- the Frank Lloyd Wright home? Very cool. Your kids are adorable as always.
